Public Information Act
The Texas Public Information Act (the PIA and formerly the Open Records Act) allows the public the right to request access to non-confidential, governmental information.
The PIA is triggered when the Harris County Attorney's Office, Harris County, or Harris County related governmental entities receive a written request for information/records during normal business hours on non-holiday, regular workdays. The request must ask for information that is already in existence.
The PIA does not require the Harris County Attorney's Office, Harris County, or Harris County related governmental entities to create new information, compile data, do legal research, or answer questions. A written request should be sent directly to the Harris County (or Harris County related) department that may have the information sought.
The Harris County Attorney Office's Public Information Act Group and the Public Information Coordinator handle PIA requests made to the Office of the Harris County Attorney. Individuals seeking documents maintained by the Office of the Harris County Attorney should submit those written requests to the Public Information Act Group as stated below.
Pursuant to Chapter 552.001, et seq.:
The Harris County Attorney has designated Amaka Balonwu, as the Public Information Coordinator of requests for public information held by the Office of the Harris County Attorney. Requests for public information that may be held by the Office of the Harris County Attorney shall be sent to the Public Information Group of the Harris County Attorney's Office in the following manner:
